Done the SimC thing... what now?

Unread postby thelema Wed Nov 25, 2015 3:03 pm

Hello everyone. I am naive to all this theorycrafthing world. I am a 704 frost mage with the curse of a low dps. Here is my armory link
http://us.battle.net/wow/es/character/q ... pin/simple" target="_blank
So in search of help to improve my dps I came here, downloaded the SimC tool, and the results were:
ScaleFactors.JPG
ScaleFactors.JPG (34.13 KiB) Viewed 4189 times
So, the big naive question is: what should I do now? I figured that I could introduce these scale factors in askmrrobot and then do the Optimize gems and enchant thing, and it tells me to replace all the MS enchants for Haste enchants. Is this right? It is not supposed that MS is our best enchant?
Another question. What are the ideal levels of our main stats? I mean SP, haste, MS, Mastery, Crit?
Can I introduce the scale factors in an addon like TopFit to calculate my best gear for Frost?
Thanks a lot for your support

Just had a short look at your char. The scaling values you've gotten seem to be alright. I do assume that you simmed yourself with gear and talents from your armory. (I.e. Frostbomb + PC + RoP). Frostbomb and PC are usually haste lovers. If you look on the frost talent thread (http://altered-time.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=749" target="_blank) you'll find the following values for your talents: Int > SP > Haste >= Multistrike >= Crit > Versatile > Mastery. They mostly do match yours. Keep in mind that they are close to each other.

Using your values for askmrrobot is a decent way to optimize gems and enchants. However the results from simcraft are "stationary" values changing Multistrike to haste may alter the resuts. I.e. If you do switch your enchants and gems from multistrike to haste you may run into weird scenarios where you arent able to benefit from haste anymore in that kind: you dont get any more casts on PC during its duration or anything like that. You may end up in a situation where you sim yourself again and the next results telling you to go back to Multistrike. This is basically true for every stat that has a cap: There are some little haste soft caps that alter the behaviour of stats. (Crit and haste mostly)
Another question. What are the ideal levels of our main stats? I mean SP, haste, MS, Mastery, Crit?

Basically every spell that has a cooldown that isnt affected by haste has some weird interaction with haste, resulting in some little caps. We do have some weird haste caps with PC and frostbomb. They actually dont really matter. As far as I know the only cap that may change a lot is the multistrike cap, which we may reach with ~740 itemlvl. Crit caps also shouldnt bother you. So the ideal levels of our main stats are : the more the better. I do not know "TopFit" but I'm sure that you can simply use the bis list on this forum. However, I am not sure if that bis list is working for itemlvls past 740. (Which you shouldnt care about at this moment anyway)
So, the big naive question is: what should I do now?
You can change your gear from Multistrike to Haste, but I do not think that it will fix your dps anyway. Maybe it does increase your damage by a very small amount, but I've told you a reason why this may not be true.
However, I'm sure that anyone that looks at your dps will think that it is to low, reading page 1 of any mage guide he will then realize Multistrike > haste. And finally he'll tell you that you are an idiot, because you do gem / enchant haste instead of multistrike. And if he doesnt shout at you because of gear, then talents are option number 2. (However with your gear I would run PC and Frostbomb, too.)

Your itemlevel is really, really low and you do lack some core items like Tiersets and decent trinkets. Itemlevel carries most of your damage, beeing able to use that items correctly by knowing and executing your rotation is the other part. If you really want to invest time into beeing a better mage : Look at the rotation, gear will come over time as long as someone takes you into raid with your itemlvl. Using cookie cutter multistrike gem & enchants is mostly enough. If you want to dig deeper on that, feel free to do it.

TL;DR: learn your rotation, get itemlvls, get Tiersets, get trinkets, keep cookie cutter enchants (multistrike.) Learning your rotation is usually the complex but most rewarding part.

Get 4x tier and trinkets because the secondaries aren't that important compared to that.
