What do you think of this trinket combo?

DSI And PoF in Xhul Arcane on a regular setup of orb/supernova. The reasoning is that a large part of the fight is on a very high-mana mage (extra mastery helps), while the trinkets can be used as stat-sticks at that time, and the class trinket has normally 0 stats, while council's has 555 mastery (I have a m wf DSI against a wf hc tome). The main problem I see now is that the burn in the end could use tome but I'd like to know what you think.

Well if it's for progression, likely the final burn is more important so you'd want to optimize for that. This sounds more like an attempt to game ranks, which would make me assume the boss is already on farm and the final phase isn't something to worry much about.

I will consider your point, it might be affecting me. I wasn't having that in mind though. I was mainly thinking that if a mage is most of the time near 100% mana and that stat-stick gives a big boost to mastery plus occasionally to intellect while the tome remains completely unused for a lot of the time (or is simply not too effective) it might actually help progress while I do understand the final burn could use tome. Are you saying the first phases aren't that important?

Early on it's all about controlling imps and voidfiends not really DPS. Once he hits final phase and starts casting overwhelming chaos you need to burn him down ASAP. He's hitting the entire raid for 250k each every 10 seconds. There's only so long your healers can sustain this before death.

The final burn is important, obviously, since you can't spend forever in that phase. But I don't think its hugely important. During our progression, which was before the upgrades, it was all about getting the first 2/3 of the fight correct. I believe we killed it in the first attempt or two that we cleanly reached the final phase. That last phase is probably less important now with upgrades, since dps/hps is even higher. I definitely wouldn't say that Tome is mandatory on that fight by any means.

I used AO/SN on progression, though I believe my trinkets were Tome/PoF.

I think of it similarly to Wilderness. I suspect the combo might not cross people's minds. Tome is often considered mandatory without much thought because of its Patchwerk properties while PoF is also considered mandatory because of its AOE and RNG properties.
