Defensive Cooldown Recommendations

Unread postby Razilon Tue Aug 19, 2014 4:41 am

I figured I'd change this up a bit from the usual "Help me with my DPS" thread on this forum.

What I'm most curious is about defensive cooldowns:

1. What defensive talents do you prefer to run for each fight?
2. Do you try to save your defensive CDs for specific abilities on the fight or just use them as needed? In particular, are there any specific fights/mechanics that you'd definitely recommend using one specific CD over another?

I'd really appreciate any advice you can give!

Well it depends, I prefer Temporal Shield for most of the Siege of Orgrimmar encounters, I love the 15% damage reduction and the fact that it heals the whole damage that you get while its active. You can just help your healers in hard situations without losing a gcd.(depending on the fight it heals with more that 100k per tick)

The only fight where I switch to Ice Barrier is actually the shamans fight to help out with that big absorb when the Iron Prison debuff from Kardris runs out. (in non heroic I feel that Temporal shield is still better than Ice Barrier)

I actually run Temporal Shield for Dark Shamans as well. the 15% damage reduction works pretty well for Iron Prison if I'm absolutely forced to. However, a much better use is to counter every falling ash. I save Ice Block and Greater Invis for Iron Prison instead, although sometimes the disc priest is on top of things so I don't even need to bother.

The only fight I absolutely recommend Ice Barrier for progression is Heroic Malkorok, because TS cannot restore HP lost from the shield when you soak. IB reduces the damage done to your shield.

TS has pretty nice uses for every fight. Pretty much every single boss except Norushen has strong raid damage spikes that you can counter with TS.

For the level 60 tier, I think I used Greater Invisibility for every single boss on progression. This depends on how well you can react with the ability though. If you find yourself having trouble reacting, or just having a bad night, Cauterize is a pretty good option.

Very much agree with this.
The best thing about GI is that not only does it reduce incoming damage by 90% for 3 seconds, but it removes (almost) everything that causes you harm over time.
Also, it's great to use while progressing on Thok since you can drop his Fixate the second before he's about to eat you.
