[Discussion] Patch 6.2 PTR
Re: [Discussion] Patch 6.2 PTR - Build 19890
They don't take the pyro DoT nerf into account, for the reasons you stated.
Probably will just wait for client data before re-doing them and looking at different ilvls and trinkets.

Re: [Discussion] Patch 6.2 PTR - Build 19890
I think this will, as always, depend on the itemization in HFC. If Mastery is once again heavily favored, then I believe the status quo will be maintained—Arcane for ST, Fire for Cleave/AoE. But if gear were to feature Crit more heavily, and depending on the Fire 4PC, it could be that Fire becomes best in almost all scenarios.Makes me wonder if it's Fire all the way then, ST + AoE fights.
This is all speculation for now, until we are able to sim in HFC BiS gear with the set bonuses. But my knee-jerk reaction is that the loss of the T17 Fire bonuses will make that spec underperform Arcane on ST.
Related it can depend on how the fights are designed. I haven't checked too much into it because most likely the info isn't out there but following the HM-->BRF trend we will have a prevail of either ST or AoE fights. Arguably fire benefits, for now, from mastery because of 4 set more than the AoE factor.
If the fights are ST say ... 8/10 of them then I could assume that arcane will be the go to spec.
Just my opinion tho.

Re: [Discussion] Patch 6.2 PTR - Build 19890
The buff to Frost Mastery could be interesting. Gear availability and boss mechanic dependent, but it could make it easier for us to slip into a frost spec, if there are a few frost friendly fights in HFC. I wouldn't throw any gear away right now, that's about all I can say for sure.
Re: [Discussion] Patch 6.2 PTR - Build 19890
I might have spoken a little too soon regarding the Arcane trinket. It seems like the combo of damage multiplier + GCD reduction + cast time reduction is pretty potent, especially with Overpowered.
That's 500K within 1.4 seconds, without a crit.
Looks like we're in contention for "biggest numbers" again.
Code: Select all
8.291 Mage_Arcane_T17M arcane_blast hits Mage_Arcane_T17M_prismatic_crystal for 174197 arcane damage (hit)
8.996 Mage_Arcane_T17M arcane_blast hits Mage_Arcane_T17M_prismatic_crystal for 168640 arcane damage (hit)
9.704 Mage_Arcane_T17M arcane_blast hits Mage_Arcane_T17M_prismatic_crystal for 163090 arcane damage (hit)
Code: Select all
6.056 Mage_Arcane_T17M arcane_blast hits Mage_Arcane_T17M_prismatic_crystal for 352852 arcane damage (crit)

But won't this make the Burn phase incredibly short, much shorter than the AP buff will last for? I'm not saying that's necessarily a bad thing, but I have to think that would temper the positive effects a bit.I might have spoken a little too soon regarding the Arcane trinket. It could make burn phases shorter, but we are already already artificially shortening the burn phase by not using AM when below 70%. If your burn phase is looking to be too short, use AM below 70% to extend it (if you have them). But won't this make the Burn phase incredibly short, much shorter than the AP buff will last for? Another trinket I didn't see mentioned is the new 'shard of woe'

Not sure how this trinket would work with the new arcane, but worth mentioning.

Wtf, 871 haste?! I (unfortunately) have less than that on all my gear atm.

Re: [Discussion] Patch 6.2 PTR - Build 19890
EDIT: It wasn't even a nerf at high gear levels, apparently.
With the second set of patch notes, it looks like the intention is really to buff Arcane Missiles by 10% instead of nerfing it. The current 10% nerf is likely a bug. If that's the case, then the Arcane changes will amount to basically zero change to our single target damage.

That BF proc nerf gotta be compensated, we are slipping into 4.3 again... And it's interesting for me, what is the point of fire proc of the class trinket anyways, does fire need even more aoe?
Re: [Discussion] Patch 6.2 PTR - Build 19890
Preliminary Patchwerk sims with 10% buff to AM instead.
6.1.2 Live:
6.2 PTR with AM modified:
The Pyro DOT nerf is surprisingly large for single target, but really doesn't make much if any difference to Fire's position as an overpowered cleave/AOE spec. Meanwhile the Frost changes are still confusing.
6.1.2 Live:
Code: Select all
DPS Ranking:
156058 100.0% Raid
54746 35.1% Mage_Arcane_T17M
52015 33.3% Mage_Fire_T17M
49298 31.6% Mage_Frost_T17M
Code: Select all
DPS Ranking:
154795 100.0% Raid
54966 35.5% Mage_Arcane_T17M
51289 33.1% Mage_Fire_T17M
48540 31.4% Mage_Frost_T17M
Re: [Discussion] Patch 6.2 PTR - Build 19890
I wonder how Frost will perform with new legendary ring.
I was thinking of a MI/FB/PC spec where you use orb on cd and you delay crystal to the 2 min mark, to line up with ring. Dunno, just a thought...I don't know even if the blast at the end can go on PC and if it will be an increase to make it hit the Crystal.
Can't wait to try.

Re: [Discussion] Patch 6.2 PTR - Build 19890
Yea, the new reworked ring CD looks like it would be crazy paired with Prismatic Crystal. But that would mean we would have to be the ones to activate the CD and be within 20 yards of the target which might not work out well for all bosses.
Re: [Discussion] Patch 6.2 PTR - Build 19890
No Official tweet/post yet.Has there been any official mention of why they want to remove Amplify Magic?
I would assume they want to buff melees, by nerfing range raid utility to balance melee/ranges. Pretty cheap solution though.
Re: [Discussion] Patch 6.2 PTR - Build 19890

Comparisons for the newest build, which has Frost buffs.
Way, way too much. In no world should Frost be stronger than arcane on single target.
Re: [Discussion] Patch 6.2 PTR - Build 19890
I think it's a bit early to say "stronger than Arcane on single target". We didn't really see that happen even in Highmaul when Frost was slightly ahead.
Napkin math says that this buff will make us want to ignore FoF procs during Icy Veins, or if we use Unstable Magic and Comet Storm. This does not bode well for T18 set bonuses.

Re: [Discussion] Patch 6.2 PTR - Build 19890
am i wrong in thinking that the fire bonus of the class trinket is awful?
Re: [Discussion] Patch 6.2 PTR - Build 19890
It's pretty weak, yeah.
