Frost dps video guide(s)
Re: Frost dps video guide(s)
I've had a few people DM me in discord to help them with BC/TV frost and also to see if I can record some bosses for some insight into the spec and how I play it. I figured this thread was a good place to tack on a video or two so here's my kill of Mythic Odyn this week: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WBi9N9yZHQs" target="_blank
I know the volume is a bit low and I definitely made some mistakes here and there, but I think this shows some decent gameplay of BC/TV on a fairly high mobility and mechanic fight.
Edit: I guess I'll add some videos here as I record them.

Re: Frost dps video guide(s)
Pizzadads,
Do you have a link to warcraft logs for these mythic fights?
EDIT: I'm mainly curious in correlating video to warcraft logs for judgement decisions
Thanks

I believe he holds a top 10 parse on heroic Nyth or something. Not sure if you can search up people, but his name is the same ingame as here.Pizzadads,

Hey Thingy I noticed you always use your Brain Freeze proc without leading with a frostbolt first. I thought it was better to lead with the frostbolt then use brain freeze'd flurry to guarentee the crit. The only reason I can think of using it immediately without using frostbolt first is to eliminate any double procs of brainfreeze? Which one is better?
Re: Frost dps video guide(s)
I tended to not frostbolt before using a BF proc because I was finding myself getting a lot of FoF procs as I was casting the frostbolt+flurry so my reasoning was to make sure I get a non-FoF ice lance shatter after flurry. It's tough to play perfect with so many procs (I know, bad reason to whine lol) so that kinda became a habit. Last night I actually forced myself to dump FoF procs -> frostbolt -> BF flurry -> ice lance a lot because I've been thinking about that lately. It resulted in slightly more BF proc munches and less ice lances to extend IV because I was using a FoF that procced during the frostbolt+flurry instead of a non-FoF ice lance for the free shatter. But on the other hand, it results in more frostbolts with a chance to crit and reduce the CD on IV and more chain reaction to get more damage from ice lances.
BC/TV is harder to play perfect than it seems!

Re: Frost dps video guide(s)
FB > BF > IL Should always be better even if you munch every proc FoF. Because you are still getting a shattered IL either way, but with FB first you are also getting a chance to crit a FB and lower IV cd.
The only time BF > IL is better is when it's often more important to just burn the brainfreeze proc asap so you can continue to burn FT/ebon bolt/pet lance/FO on CD, rather than keep the CD's hanging.
This is especially important for RoF build where you really don't have time to leave any CD's hanging for even a second.

Re: Frost dps video guide(s)
Ok guys thanks for the info! Still learning frost and stuff like this really helps me understand the spec. I think I will keep doing FB > BF > IL because the ice lance damage from chain reaction just seems really strong, especially if you have a 2 or 3 stack already up and know that frozen touch is coming off CD soon. But I have ran into the problem of leaving CD's hanging as well. Sometimes I have had chains of 6-7 FoF charges in a row ( I swear sometimes I don't know where they are coming from) and I am spamming them so my cd's are not being used immediately. But I think this is a good problem to have.
Re: Frost dps video guide(s)
This is a really useful post thanks, is the idea that flurry will travel faster than a frostbolt? its not something I can physically see happening on screen, so I can only go off what people are saying on the forums.FB > BF > IL Should always be better even if you munch every proc FoF. Because you are still getting a shattered IL either way, but with FB first you are also getting a chance to crit a FB and lower IV cd.
Sometimes I will leave my BF proc, cast my FoF's, then re-frostbolt and use the BF.. whether its worth worrying about I dunno.
Re: Frost dps video guide(s)
I did mythic Guarm tonight with the following in mind: When BF procs immediately cast Frostbolt -> Flurry -> Ice Lance regardless of proc status. I kept to it for the most part except moving.

Re: Frost dps video guide(s)
Is that your best parse for Guarm so far thingy? How did it feel compared to the way you were doing it before? Also side question, how often do you notice your ice lances not hitting during the 1s shatter window after BF flurries? For me it happens like 15% of the time, but I only have 26% haste.
Edit: Thingy could you explain your opening rotation? It happens very quickly in the video and it is hard to tell.
I also noticed you do 3 Frostbolts during hero/lust when you use Water Jet. Has anyone done analysis on 2 v 3 frostbolts during Water Jet, is it actually better to do this? From my understanding you have a 15% chance to get 2 FoF stacks from each FB during WJ, so by the 3rd FB you could actually have 3 FoF procs already.

if you haz 3 procs of FoF and 1 proc of BF
you must use Frostbolt + Flurry + Ice lance + 2 left FoFed Ice lances (munching procs - on)
you must not use x3 FoFed Ice lances + Frostbolt + Flurry + Ice lance (munching procs - off)
Re: Frost dps video guide(s)
Yes that's my best so far out of 2 kills. The last kill I died and got rezzed, but I dropped IV and had to re-summon my water elemental - I was doing around 550k at that point with probably a minute left in the fight IIRC. I haven't really noticed my non-FoF ice lances not hitting in the shatter window after BF flurries except I guess if I lagged. You should be able to check in logs to see when you hit non-crit ice lances. Is that your best parse for Guarm so far thingy? How did it feel compared to the way you were doing it before? My opening rotation is as follows:
Pre-Pot -> 2.3sec cast Ebonbolt -> Frozen Orb -> Icy Veins -> Dump FoF procs till 0-1 procs -> Frozen Touch -> Dump till 0-1 procs -> Frostbolts into Water Jet -> Dump procs.
I actually was too quick on that pull in the video and lost a FoF proc because I used Frozen Touch before dumping my 2nd FoF proc that was up. I've been toying with changing the opener, but from what I can tell most people's openers all come pretty close in damage to each other even if they're different. The only thing I could think of that could improve my opener is doing Water Jet earlier to hopefully gain a stack or two of Chain Reaction for FoF dumping. It just all feels really fluid right now and it's probably really small details that don't really matter too much.
As for 3 frostbolts during Water Jet - I try to squeeze in as many frostbolts for chain reaction as I can providing I don't munch procs.
In the video I was also trying something different to see if minimizing brain freeze proc munches by using them instantly with a frostbolt first would result in more damage than dumping FoF first then doing it. In the end it didn't seem to matter and it did cost me some IV uptime due to not getting that extra free shattered ice lance to extend. It was simmed to be a slight gain (~5k), but it wasn't noticeable to me. Brain Freeze procs when frostbolt finishes casting (not when it hits the mob) so on average you probably lose up to 25% of your Brain Freeze procs anyways just due to casting frostbolt before every BF flurry.
As far as I know the APL in simcraft dumps FoF procs before going into a frostbolt->brain freeze->ice lance so it's probably better to emulate that play instead. I'll probably try to focus more on playing that way as well in opposition to this video and my last ones where I was barely casting frostbolt before BF->ice lance.
Re: Frost dps video guide(s)
I've personally always opened with waterjet because I can squeeze a third frostbolt in for a third FoF proc. Basically just pre-cast frostbolt at pull, just before it goes off, start waterjet, and then follow with IV and 2 more frostbolts. The waterjet won't be sped up by the IV this way, giving time to fit more frostbolts in. I don't really have a strict rotation for the rest, but probably should start using orb earlier.

Question: Let's say IV is active and you're doing everything you can to extend it. Brain Freeze procs. In the window of IV being active, do you BF-IL or do you ignore the BF and just fish-and-launch IL as much as possible?
Re: Frost dps video guide(s)
If you scroll up a bit there was a discussion about this and in Thingy's video he shows it pretty well most of the time. You should always clear your FoF charges and then Frostbolt > Flurry > IL. The FB has a chance to crit to lower the IV CD and you get the shattered IL after the Flurry to extend IV or you proc a FoF charge anyway from the FB and get a shattered IL to extend it.Question: Let's say IV is active and you're doing everything you can to extend it.
