Frost dps video guide(s)

Hello ,I see a lot of people asking for help in regards to the frost opener/rotation or when to run which talent set-ups. I would be more than happy to create some videos myself, with commentary, and maybe some other people could chip in with guides of their own. I am just wondering if there is any demand for this sort of thing so if you would like this sort of content post a reply. For reference, I am a 5/7 mythic EN,882 item level frost Mage, and I parse 90%+ on most of the fights.

Alright so a few people expressed interest in these videos, so I went ahead and recorded a boss fight from the heroic Trial of Valor raid a couple hours ago. This was actually probably one of my worse attempts personally but we killed the boss so its the one I figured I'd go ahead and show.

This is just one of many viable frost dps builds, just the one I prefer to play. If you would like to see a particular boss fight, or want a further explanation on any of my reasoning behind my talent/gear choices feel free to post a reply here. I don't think I mentioned it anywhere but I'm currently sitting at 24% crit and 39% haste, with this talent setup wowsimulator will value haste above everything until ~40% haste and then your stat priorites will be int>crit>vers>haste>mastery. love the videos! I have been practicing frost on the side because I only know fire and feel I will fuck myself not knowing other specs just in case. Definitely make more! I learn so much better with videos over written guides.

Maybe do a in depth video on the opener in situations such as "lust on pull and not lust on pull" or Lust with this talent, lust without that talent. Openers are so crucial

thank you very much for this. I am a fire mage but on single target it seems that frost performs just more dmg overall. Still figuring out how to play it. The pace is so fast compared to fire. I hope I will get it somehow

Another quick video for you guys, this is playing bone chilling/incanter's flow instead of rune of power/ray of frost. They are both enjoyable viable builds, however I would definitely recommend this build for more movement heavy fights.

Very straightforward build, just remember to maintain stacks of bone chilling and use all of your cooldowns/procs asap.Stat priority for this build is basically the same as RoF build. My simulated values at 25% crit and 39% haste are: [ntellect=9.01, HasteRating=10.53, MasteryRating=8.23, CritRating=9.99, Versatility=8.43]

Hi am kinda a frost trainee but i have some questions and thanks in advance for those awesome vids

1. I am a bit confused why do you use lance before flurry ? I thought ice lance has a much higher velocity then flurry therefore i used instant flurry->GCD->Ice lance. What is the reason you do it the other way arround.

2. Is there a rule when you apply frostbomb ? like you are shure do drop at least 3 lances into it.

1. Because a Brain Freeze Flurry gives Winter's Chill, which makes your Ice Lance act as if the target is frozen. This has no effect on Fingers of Frost Ice Lance and so wastes it. If you have Brain Freeze and FoF you go IL, Flurry, IL which fill dump your charge of FoF, Brain Freeze and use the Winter's Chill debuff. If you have multiple charges of FoF, dump them all before doing Flurry + IL to use up the BF proc.

2. You only apply Frost Bomb if you're gonna dump 2 or more IL in to it, these can be Flurry buffed or FoF buffed. Apply before RoP and if you're gonna use Orb, put FB up as the orb travels, giving it time to give you FoF procs.

1. If if reach 3 fingers and still linger on less than 3 Chain reactions do i drop to 1 finger or just make room for the procc by dropping to 2 stacks.

2. Has poping cooldowns like Ebonbolt, Orb or FT a higher priority then fishing for chain reaction ?

Eg. Frozen Touch and Orb just came off cd, i got 2 FoFs but only 1 chain reaction proc. Do i keep fishing or do i just start spamming all coming procs through cds and ignore chain reaction ?

I would not recommend trying to play around chain reaction, you are going to lose procs and icy veins uptime and it really isn't worth it. Using your cooldowns asap is always a higher priority than fishing for chain reaction. That being said, it's good to be aware of your chain reaction stacks. A quick example, let's say I end up with 2 FoF, a brain freeze proc, 2 chain reaction stacks, and frozen touch is coming off of cooldown. In this rare scenario it will be worth it to frostbolt>brain-freeze before dumping FoF to guarantee the 3rd stack of chain reaction, because I know I will be able to get 4+ Ice lances off at max stacks and even then it's a very minor dps increase, as well as a loss on icy veins uptime. In conclusion, just focus on your rotation and getting max icy veins uptime, don't play around chain reaction but do be aware of it.

No, unstable magic does really poor damage(about 2% of total damage), but if you want an easier rotation at the cost of some DPS you can run it.

That's all I really wanted to say, but I guess to make this a little more constructive I'll ask a question.

You parse pretty high as Frost (gj, btw), and so I'm wondering your personal opinion on Ray of Frost versus Bonechilling, in respects to TV uptime. RoF normally is going to impact your IV time, so how exactly does it work out for you personally? Is the burst damage from RoF + RoP just nicer than 80%+ IV, is it personal taste, does it depend on the fight, or what?

Im trying to learn but its so hard to keep the icy-vein more than 50%(my icy vein goes off before second frozen orb).

Can you keep your Icyvein 80% of time with out Bloodlust at pull??

my raid dont lust most of fight at pull so i cant really benefit from exodar ring.... please help.

You mentioned in one video that you have footage of the other fights. If possible could you show us how you are doing Il'gynoth? My dps seems to plummet on that fight as frost.

@rikx it's just personal taste really, on really movement heavy fights I'd say bone chilling is the clear choice but otherwise just play which you prefer.

@bawn don't worry about dps on Il'gynoth I could upload my fight if you want but I'm not topping any meters or anything, its just a mechanic fight.
