So, we finally came back from our Christmas break and it's now time for the last boss. Looking quite forward to it actually! We spent a few pulls on it after clearing yesterday and I was using Fire on a few pulls maintaining around 50-55k during the first phase. Obviously we do have an enh shaman to deal with the adds but I was keeping up quite nicely.

Having a look at Warcraftlogs I have noticed that no-one is running as fire on their kills. Not a single parse so far so I am obviously looking to find out what the story is regarding the spec and the fight? Anyone with thoughts about this?

There's noone in US/EU running as fire, but there certainly are fire logs!

It felt like most of them were "doing the fire nova job" though, and it wasn't really about boss damage nearly as much. Considering how most of the DPS check is in killing big adds and Cho'gall, I'm not convinced by the choice.

Yeah, I am not 100% sure which is why I am bringing it up. DPS whoring is fun but only when it's useful for killing the boss on progression.
During the add phases, Living Bomb was doing quite a bit of splash damage to the boss from my logs. Enough to still end up 4th on my best pull overall on boss damage. Those chinese logs also have the fire mages not too far off on single target dps...
I assume that as soon as the adds dry up, dps will drop but with the last phases again having adds I am intrigued enough to try it for a bit.

Fire is definitely the go-to spec for padding on this fight. lol The first phase is so fun. Unfortunately, where it fell apart for me was damage to the fortified arcane aberration. All I could do is spread dots and save a pyro for it but my damage was still terrible. Those 2+ second cast times really were not helping. I was also able to do way more boss damage as frost. So I ended up switching back. It sucks though because I was having so much fun crushing the other dps in the first phase. ): lol

+1 I ended up switching back to frost for the 2nd progression night. And with FoF + FO + Blizzard gaming I am still keeping up with the padding and actually doing very good boss + add dps.
