'Acceptable' Munching
Re: 'Acceptable' Munching
First check the amount of FoF gained under the Buff Section on Warcraftlogs. Then Check the amount of Ice Lance casted and compare the values. Same goes for FFB. If u have more buffs than Casts you obviously munched some of them.
But you should also check out if u castest unprocced FoF as those would visually show that you munched less than you actually did. For that go to the Ice Lance Tab and then click Event View. Search for Abysmal Damaging Hits (For me its around 3k+). Those hits were unprocced Ice Lances.

having a hard time finding this stat... what is the top tab you are selecting? Could you be a bit more specific?

Cheers!

Choose the fight u want to see. Click on yourself, it automatically puts you into the "Damage done" Tab. Then click on the Ice Lance dmg. Then, roughly in the middle you can choose between "Tables View" and "Event View".But you should also check out if u castest unprocced FoF as those would visually show that you munched less than you actually did. Re: 'Acceptable' Munching
It is the loss of a proc due to the proc being over written by another proc of the same type. E.g.what is munching
You currently have 2 charges of Brain Freeze (the max), before you can use the 2nd charge, you proc Brain Freeze again. You will still only have 2 charges, but one of the charges has now been "munched" which is going to be lost DPS because if you had used the 2nd charge before the 3rd proc, you wouldn't have lost the 3rd proc.
Re: 'Acceptable' Munching
Thanks, i thought that might be the case, but first time i heard that term.
Re: 'Acceptable' Munching
Is anyone else having a hard time not munching FoF procs during PC with IV and Orb? I find myself munching 15 FoF procs (M Kargath kill) during a fight and am looking at trying to fix it. It seems to be fights that I use FB or PC on and from what I can gather, the procs come too fast for me to get rid of them all or I will be half way into a Frostbolt cast when 2 stacks appear. Or for FB, I find myself having to cast FB on the target before dumping two stacks. For FB, once I get a FoF stack, I will put it on the target. I try to FB before orb and WJ of course, but I will still find myself getting an instant 2 stacks FoF with no FB on the target.
Is it better to cancel hard casts of frostbolt to dump FoF and BF procs? I've been in the habit of a canceled cast is a dps loss. Though I havent really raided in a progression guild since half way through wrath.
I'm decently geared (670) and feel that I am not pulling the numbers I should be doing. What is consistent every fight is the same ratio of FoF procs to IL casts. I am munching quite a bit, also not getting enough hard casts of frostbolts off.

Re: 'Acceptable' Munching
I think there are alot of factors which can be taken into account to know if stopcasting there would be a dps gain or loss on average.
The only case i would consider stoping my cast is when Orb is hitting 2 target and i have 2 procs of FoF, and if my cast has just started (before the half of cast-time).
Maybe I'm wrong and you should never stop cast, since i did not do the math there I just do what I find natural, when Orb is hitting 2 target there is a high chance you will munch one FoF in this situation that's why I may stopcast.
Btw this situation happens almost never for me, most of the time by the time I use all my FoF/IN, FO doesn't hit anymore or generate way less FoF. The situation where i have 2 FoF, FO is still hitting and I am casting frostbolt is unlikely to happen.

Re: 'Acceptable' Munching
I was a little tired when I wrote that so it is all over the place. I'll try to explain what I think is happening.
I'll clear FoF/BF procs, cast WJ, get 2 FoF, drop crystal, hit IV, use both FoF procs into crystal, use FO, cast IN, use the 1 FoF proc. Now here is where I think I am losing some. I'll start casting Frostbolt because I dont have any stacks at the start of that cast, it happens on occasion that 2 FoF will proc at the same time, so I wasn't sure whether to drop that cast of Frostbolt to hit 2 FoF into crystal or not.
When there are multiple targets up I do sometimes have zero procs during PC and will start casting frostbolt as well, same thing will happen. Maybe just hold off casting anything? I know procs will come especially with 2 target +PC taking FO damage, though I try to plan out what I am going to do next before the GCD comes up.
I may be completely wrong, but every fight there seems to be around 15 FoF procs munched and since IL is usually top or close to top damage I feel this is A LOT of dps lost.

Re: 'Acceptable' Munching
Start with using FO before PC, that saves one gcd that should instead be spent throwing stuff into PC. Always be casting something, if you react quickly enough and use stuff at the right time (no WJ on pull if running PC/IN for example) munching should be minimal. The one golden rule of casters is pretty much always be casting something tbh

Re: 'Acceptable' Munching
So I shouldn't be casting WJ on pull to get 2FoF procs for PC? That is my opener because I thought it was more dps to get those 2 FoF into crystal even with wasting a gcd casting FO into crystal.
Re: 'Acceptable' Munching
Probably not worth losing a GCD considering most of the time you will have a lot of FoF proc from FO/PC.
You can WJ before PC if tanks are moving the boss, but use all your FoF proc before FO- PC. (or else you have a lot of chance to munch one)

Re: 'Acceptable' Munching
There's a thread somewhere around here that using WJ with PC/IN on the pull is a tiny dps loss, but a loss nonetheless.
Re: 'Acceptable' Munching
Hmm. Alright, thanks for the input, I will drop those 2 FoF procs before PC to use FO then cast PC. Hopefully that will stop most of the munching.
