Fire mage guide for 6.2 by Dutchmagoz!
Re: Fire mage guide for raiding by Dutchmagoz! [updated for
Ops my bad. I have no idea about crit, but haste is probably simming low because you seem to be really far away from the breakpoint
Re: Fire mage guide for raiding by Dutchmagoz! [updated for
The Haste thing is to lower the GCD enough to gain a 3rd Pyroblast cast for your 4pc proc which ends up being a DPS increase for most people(seems dependent on your gearing though). Crit & Mastery were the end all be all stats for Fire in the first place and you should try to get as many Crit/Mastery gear pieces as possible regardless of set bonuses. The set bonuses just pushed up Mastery over Crit is all.
I haven't fully agreed personally with the flat prioritization of Mastery over Crit that a lot of people have been doing, I think it's a bit more complicated then that(gut feeling without any data to back it up unfortunately) but if my sim means anything, I really think the gearing 100% for Mastery that a lot of BiS lists are doing isn't quite right. I feel like you need to have the two stats balanced well to get the most benefit from them rather than going all in on one or the other.
The relevance just isn't that high though with so many people gearing towards Arcane and only utilizing Fire for high cleave/AoE fights I guess.

The thing with crit and gearing for it is, it's a very expensive stat (110 rating for 1%, the only stat more expensive is versatility), and you get a lot of passive crit from Molten Armor, buffs and incineration.
Re: Fire mage guide for raiding by Dutchmagoz! [updated for
I'm not sure who is advocating full mastery for fire, because that definitely isn't optimal. For single target it's pretty clear that Crit is still ahead.

Ok so I am feeling pretty stupid ATM.
First I see:
Gearing:
Stat priority:
Single target: int > spellpower > crit > mastery > haste > multistrike > versatility
Single target with 4pc t17: Same as without 4pc since the t17 nerf.
Multiple targets: int > spellpower > mastery >>> crit > haste > multistrike > versatility
Then I see:
How to gear:
Looking at the above stat priorities, it's obvious that we want crit and mastery gear, since those are our 2 best stats. So, you want to go for any item with either crit or mastery, or preferably both.
Single target stat priority: haste till 900 > crit > mastery > multistrike=haste > versatility
For AoE/cleave fights: haste till 900 > mastery > crit > multistrike=haste > versatility
Which is right?

If you have 4set and reasonable amounts of haste, but below like ~850 or so, get a couple of haste enchants and go for that breakpoint.
If you hardly have any haste on your gear, don't worry about it.
Other than that, on straight single target crit>mastery>other stats, on cleave fights mastery>crit>other stats. If you run arcane for single target and fire aoe as is common, just aim for mastery with decent amounts of crit.

The second was correct.
Though 900 is a bit high, you can get away with like 750-800 as well, but it becomes very tight.

Hey,
If you end your 4pc Pyroblast spam with a Pyroblast! proc, is it worth using this Pyroblast even though it's not a guaranteed crit? Or is it better to just use Combustion asap after your 4pc runs out to guarantee to get the biggest ignite? or is there enough of a time window to add that last Pyroblast! and it will still add to the ''first'' 4pc Pyroblast's Ignite?

I run arcane on mythic darmac, with SN, IF, AO.
I glyph ap and use it on the first and last beast generally, at least I think that's what I did on progress. On farm I don't really bother too much with timings anymore and just use on cooldown.
For fire, run living bomb, IF, kindling, and make sure you spread living bomb as much as possible when all the small adds are around. Other than that, motly use combustion on cooldown, prioritising damage to the beasts, not small adds.

So I have really bad luck in heroic and only have the 665 robes (http://www.wowhead.com/item=115550/arca ... es&bonus=0" target="_blank) for t17. Tonight I got the mythic Eye-Catching Gilded Robes (http://www.wowhead.com/item=113898/eye- ... &bonus=567" target="_blank)
Now i JUST got my 4pc and am deeply in love with it...but 30 ilvl? What do you guys (or gals) think
Edit: I know that it's ok to replace h hm with n BRF gear but mythic is a whole other ball game...I think?

Re: Fire mage guide for raiding by Dutchmagoz! [updated for
Use the 4pc. Not only will 4pc be worth more than a single 30 ilvl upgrade in pretty much any slot, but the tier chest has mastery whereas that mythic one does not.
PS: you should just sim that kind of question yourself. Its very easy to just import once with 4pc and once with the mythic chest. That is the best way to get a true answer for any gear comparison since it will always change depending ont he rest of your gear.

I did run it through simcraft and the difference is about 350~ dps or so in favour of the 4 piece (something like 0.01 or so %) but I dunno it seems....off a bit, and I can't put my finger on it but it feels wrong. I can post the sims later when I'm home from work.

I would go with the 4pc. The chest has nice stats and 4pc is really damn strong, especially on cleave.

I'd echo what's already been said - go with the 4 piece. Granted this was before the 4-set nerf, but it was worthwhile for me to drop 4 685 HM pieces for 4 665 tier then, so I can't imagine that a single upgrade, even though its 30 ilvls, would outweigh the tier.

Is it foolish to run a crit spec with 4pc t17 currently 684 Ilvl and at 47.60% crit buffed with food and roughly 15% haste and 30% mastery buffed. Main reason I ask is that a few mages are dumbfounded I am not running arcane mastery fire spec like everyone else is

Crit is the way to go if you're only playing fire, and not swapping between fire and arcane. Is it foolish to run a crit spec with 4pc t17 currently 684 Ilvl and at 47.60% crit buffed with food and roughly 15% haste and 30% mastery buffed. Is *only* playing fire 100% optimal? No.
Is it viable? Yes

For fights like Darmac and Thogar we should go crit over mastery right? It's not a cleave fight for the most part, it's like single target with waves of adds.
I have Oregorger hands and Kromog's shoulder, not sure which one to use for Thogar.
