Looking to improve

Unread postby macca Mon Jun 16, 2014 11:36 pm

Hi all, i have been playing frost very casually, but i feel its time to go "hard core" :D i have looked at the different builds a frost mage could go with, mine is a very safe middle of the road, i have two questions though, i would like to do a lot more single target dps, against SoO boss's of course, should i stay as i am with the gear i have, or should i got with the mastery build?, im always first or second on damage in our guild raids but rarely the top or near the top at dps, i feel killing a boss asap is more important than lots of damage done to mobs, what you think?, any advice would be gratefully received, Macca

Looking at your armor, it seems like you have a lot of haste. Haste soft caps at around 48% fully raid buffed, as it's right after a LB breakpoint and the GCD cap. I aim for 13200 haste on my goblin, so I think around 14242 haste is what I've heard for other races. After that, pump all your stats into mastery. If you see the heroic raiding frost mages, their top damage is always their icicles and water elemental. When I go frost I have almost 90% mastery, which is essentially a 90% damage boost. So I'd recommend doing that first and seeing how your DPS fares.

Another thing is you're using the 4pc. For frost, the 4pc is essentially useless. If you have warforged gear you want to equip instead of tier, go ahead do that, however don't break 2pc. Another tip regarding the 2pc is to save one FoF proc at all times and wait for a BF proc to gain the damage boost. Good luck in your Frosty endeavours!

Getting haste to the 14242 breakpoint and after that mastery is advised though 19347 haste as a breakpoint is also possible. GCD-Cap is exactly 50% haste.

Camping one FoF for 2pc is actually irrelevant. There are certain scenarios where you still can munch a FoF and one munched proc is enough to negate any gain from saving. Same goes for snappshotting the bombs in most cases.

Also if you really want to improve. Record a combat log, upload it to warcraft logs and post a link.

There are still some improvements possible:
- Your proc usage seems to be off at times. You waste BF and FoF procs by not using them in time.
- Uptime on Invokers Energy and Living Bomb look solid but could still be improved slightly.

The rest is hard to say due to the nature of the log. If you produce a log file, try to upload different raids in different reports. What you uploaded was kinda messy. The 'split log' option of the client can help with this.

As to gearsets: The armory shows the gear set you most recently locked out with. Though the current one looks ok.
