Aran's Relaxing Ruby has been a heavily sought after trinket since it was released. While strong, the proc rate has been debated over near constantly, especially for Fire vs Frost. The spelldata lists a value of 0.92rppm, however many people reported a much higher proc rate. Previously, I modeled the proc rate in SimC after Fire mage tests, setting it at 1.75RPPM. The results were that Aran's performed very well - but that Frost mages ended up observing much lower damage values in game than the sim was producing. In an effort to finally put this to bed, I've collected logs from all three specs using the help of some of the mages in discord (Tako/Stew).

From the data, I don't think that the Fire RPPM value has been nerfed heavily since I originally hotfixed it to 1.75. However, due to how the sim handles bad luck protection, it's possible that we're still overvaluing it. To fix this, the rate will be lowered to 1.65RPPM for Fire. Arcane values match Fire, so Arcane will also run at 1.65RPPM. This shouldn't be a large change from how the trinket is performing currently for Fire/Arcane, so it will still be highly sought after. The main difference in the coming Trinket comparison updates will be to Frost. Frost RPPM is currently set to 1.75, which is much higher than the 1.42 collected from logs. The result is that the proc rate for Frost is ~30% higher than it should be, and thus Aran's is overvalued. To fix this, the rate will be lowered to 1.35.
Aran's Relaxing Ruby proc rate
Re: Aran's Relaxing Ruby proc rate
I was actually just about to find a place to inquire about the trinket for Frost. Managed to snag one recently (only 860) and was super excited cuz simc was saying it was a pretty big upgrade. Was expecting around 5% damage based on the sim, but was really sad to see only about 2-3% from my time running with it. Eventually just swapped back to my Naraxas, where it immediately started doing more damage.
Re: Aran's Relaxing Ruby proc rate
Looks like 7.1.5 has fixed whatever was causing the inflation of the RPPM value for this trinket.

There are also a decent number of hunter logs from the PTR that agree with the RPPM being ~1. Together with our logs, I think these provide strong evidence that Aran's has been fixed.

Re: Aran's Relaxing Ruby proc rate
so is this a 60% nerf to the trinket from where it stands now? If that's the case it seems like it will take a back seat to most other trinkets for anything except M+ trash. I guess I can also go back to wearing my 885 chest since my 875 nightbane one wont be such hot shit anymore.Looks like 7.1.5 has fixed whatever was causing the inflation of the RPPM value for this trinket.

Re: Aran's Relaxing Ruby proc rate
For mythics+ unless it is a run where you can comfortably pull huge packs(stuff like Maw first boss and Shipmaster pull), maybe it will be good. I personally started to love Infernal Writ(880) - at 15+ stacks I am at over 80% crit and living bomb/FS just rip things apart.so is this a 60% nerf to the trinket from where it stands now? PS. Did 7/7 hc EM with chest and trinket and the numbers were much lower than 1 RPPM, even tho the mastery got buffed a bit, seems lackluster.
