Can someone help me look at my logs

Unread postby BLTurntable Mon Jul 17, 2017 6:54 pm

Moderator note: moved to Q&A.

Hello friends,

I am a Resto Shaman main who is very new to arcane and mage in general. I am very new to raid environments on my mage but I'm decently geared so I was asked to bring my mage to heroic because we had an extra trial healer. I'm pretty darn bad it seems from these logs and was just wondering if any of you more experienced mages could check them out and give me some pointers.

Thanks

I'm nowhere near an expert Arcane mage, but you should take a quick read through my post for some tips on what to look for in your logs and a few videos of the Arcane rotation (https://www.altered-time.com/forum/view ... f=3&t=4585)

I took a quick scan of your logs and your Goroth kill (it's a simple single target fight with minimal movement, so provides a good baseline):

1- Your legendaries are playing a big role in your low parses. You want double-ring and/or archmage+kilt for ST fights

2- There's something weird going on with your logs. The buffs tab & filters are only showing you cast 2 Arcane Powers (one at 2:00min and one at 3:30min), so it makes it seem like you missed AP at the very start of the fight. But..the Timeline view is showing you cast 3 APs...so I'm not really sure what that is about?

3- Arcane Explosion! AE is way more effective against 2+ mobs and there are several killer AoE fights in TOS. Harjatan is a great example, and on that fight your #1 damage is Arcane Blast  and you only cast 9 AEs. This fight is literally standing on the boss and hitting AExtimes, then Arcane Barrage, then AE x 4, then Abarr, etc. (note: I'm completely over simplifying here, since you'll want to do MoA, ROP, AP, etc. too, but you get the point). I'm not sure I ever cast AB except at the very first few seconds of the fight. Same goes for Sassz'ine fight, Desolate host, etc.). Look at some expert Arcane mage parses to see what gear they are wearing and what spells they are casting for ST vs. AoE fights (i.e., Deltoramasta, Naustis, etc.).

Hope it helps get you started.

His initial Presence of Mind cast is also missing from the timeline, so he probably precast them just before the pull. That's not great; you should definitely cast Mark of Aluneth before casting damage CDs like POM, AP, or Rune of Power.

Also, if you're new to Arcane, you should probably take Incanter's Flow until you're comfortable enough with the basic gameplay to start adding complexity with Rune of Power. Yes, Rune of Power is better than Incanter's Flow.. if you execute correctly.

That if is important.

POM doesn't have a timer. You can cast it 10 minutes before a fight starts.

He has the tier 20 2P, so casting it ten minutes before the fight starts would be a waste.
