Hey guys, I'm happy to have found this forum on my mission to improve my DPS and make myself more competitive in my guild. We are currently progressing HC Garrosh and I want to be considered the top mage in the guild, so I am working towards it through my gear and rotation.
I am currently mostly geared towards Arcane as this is the spec that I entered the guild with, but I regemmed and reforged for frost because Arcane still requires quite a lot of my attention which I can't spare while focusing on fight mechanics in HC. I've set my haste cap at 13629 (goblin) and the rest I'm putting into mastery.
I'm finding myself doing very underwhelming DPS, where in a raid setting even with spell haste and spell vulnerability I find myself bursting for no more than 600k and finishing at about 330-360k.
Armory
Nazgrim flex
Shamans LFR (satisfied with this one)
For those tries I've flasked and eaten 275 stat food (300 ran out because we wiped in lfr 1, lol) and we had all raid buffs, but I did not prepot or use pot during combat (cheapskate). The main points which I was focusing on and working to improve were my bomb uptime and reapplying invoker's energy after it fades. Apart from that I am still struggling a bit with finding a good time for Alter Time, but I am starting to get more comfortable with compromising when not all conditions are met. I start off with Invo, Mirror Image into a Frostbolt 1s before fight and then a bloodlusted Bomb. If I get some trinket procs with icicles and BF/FoF I use Veins and Alter Time and blow everything normally.
Bonus Protectors as Arcane
At the same time I am trying to improve my Arcane DPS and I know that Protectors is as shitty of a fight as it gets to analyze my ST rotation, but I forgot to turn on logging for Jugg like the dumbass I am. I suppose that a little bit of ST rotation can be derived from this log if the kind soul that helps me finds a second to review it. Also, I was gemmed/reforged the same way as my Frost gear, with Mage Armor for this boss (I did the rest of part 1 as well as Jugg in Frost Armor).
So, I would like to ask for your help with my Frost DPS, possibly take a look at my Arcane DPS and answer a gear question: I did a couple of sims to compare weapons, and perhaps I did something wrong, but for my current gear it suggested that the best weapon to use was HCWF Gaze. The sim showed higher DPS with HCWF Gaze than with HCWF wand + HCWF Revelations, or HCWF Arc Sword + HCWF Revelations, or HCWF Lever. I am currently using a HC Gaze and I also have a HC Arc Sword + WF Revelations and I am wondering if, in the end, the 1h + oh combo would be better. Thank you in advance!
Improving dps, 577 frost/arcane
Re: Improving dps, 577 frost/arcane
For your Frost play:
-You have cast more Ice Lances than FoF procs and less Frostfire Bolts than Brainfreeze procs. That loses a good deal of dps.
-You removed your first Icy Veins with your AT on Nazgrim; On Shamans you removed both IVs (Alter time needs to be the last spell cast in your macro)
-You lacked Invokers Energy for the whole of Time Warp on Nazgrim
For Arcane:
It seems fine, a bit better RoP uptime would be good. Multidotting was ok and your CD macro for Arcane seems to be correct. Cannot say anything about mana management without advanced combat logging.
For your gear questions:
Gaze could be better than Arcweaver if you have low mastery overall. For HCWF weapons, try to worry to get one before worrying about which one to use.

Shoot me a pm if you want me to elaborate on my crazy thoughts. I sometimes lose track of what I actually meant to say.

Re: Improving dps, 577 frost/arcane
Hey Soggs, thanks for having a look at my logs.
I'm feeling really dumb about the IV removal
I'll rework the macro immediately and I will also take note of the procs better. Actually right after the Nazgrim encounter I made a weakaura to show when it's running out and when it's off, resulting in a better uptime in the Shamans encounter. Thank you very much for pointing out both of those things, I'll make sure to improve on that.
Mana management on arcane- I try to never go below 80%, and when it happens I pop my gem and try to keep around 90%. I don't think I went below that in the encounter.
As for the gear, my main point of confusion is the lack of HC offhand. That is why I was curious if, in case I get a HCWF mainhand, there were any rules set in stone for what's better. I thought that my sims were inaccurate because they kept showing Gaze > all, even for Arcane (whereas all guides show Wand + Revelations) but I did not account for the factor of other pieces of gear that I have and the plot scaling.

Re: Improving dps, 577 frost/arcane
Here are my logs from a night of HC Garrosh progression. I fixed my macro not to erase Icy Veins and I am trying my best to improve in other ways.
I am pretty happy with my initial burst which can go over 1,1 mil if I get the procs at the right time, but then my DPS drops off drastically. 3/4 of the way through the raid the RL even took me off desecrate duty in favour of dps on the move classes just so I could squeeze in more, but I still seem to halt at around 330-350k.
From what I see myself I have horrible bomb uptime of around 80% (but does that count all the targets, as in if I bomb an add or a far seer and the bomb runs out before it dies- does it count as bomb downtime for me?) and that I consume FoF very rigorously while missing out on a shit ton of Brain Freezes (I honestly don't know how the number of unused procs could be that high. I could swear I was consuming them as they came), which is especially hurtful because I run 2pc.
Also, a specific question- what is the right way to consume Brain Freeze? If I get a chance to glyphed-CoC the adds I always do it, otherwise I use it on a FoF ice lance, but if I have no lance procs should I just dump it into a frostbolt?
I am already greatful for the help I've received but if there's any other glaring mistake which I should take care of please do point it out, I feel like I should be doing so, so much more with my gear, including HCWF Bindings.
