Has anyone got Whispers in the Dark? Thoughts?
I was lucky enough to open a ilvl900 Whispers in the Dark last night from the weekly chest. I have no DPS legendaries, (currently using Sephuz and Norgannons) and I'm curious what other peoples thoughts are on the trinket.
I'm currently ilvl 887 w/ Whispers equipped. http://us.battle.net/wow/en/character/k ... k/advanced SimC takes me from 491k dps (w/out Whispers) to 507k dps (w/ Whispers). It feels slightly counter productive so far with my limited mana pool and no legendaries to supplement mana regen. I haven't had a chance to test it in raid, only on practice dummy. I'll be able to test it tonight.
I'm finding that the proc of the trinket is not predictable at all. Sometimes I get lucky and part of my AP burn gets caught in the proc, which means part of my AP burn is caught in the debuff as well. Sometimes it proc's on my conserve, sometimes it proc's on my no-AP burn, which quickly OOM's me. It throws off a lot of my cooldown alignments. Perhaps 4 pc tier will help with this? Idk.
Right now I am enchanted/gemm'd for mastery/versatility. As you can see from my armory link above, with Whispers equipped (replace Hellfire deck) I sit at 25% crit, 15.5% haste, 33% mastery, & 6.5% vers. Any suggestions on how to optimize myself? I figured Haste would become devalued with this trinket so I picked up some versatility enchants/gems. Perhaps I should've stacked more mastery for the mana pool.
Anyway, anyone have any good info to add for this trinket?

Re: Has anyone got Whispers in the Dark? Thoughts?
I got one as well, and its supposed to be the best trinket, but only if you're lucky lol. Its unpredictable, and the debuff is a real pain since i devalued haste and im sitting at around 14% now. So if the debuff hits, you're really slow. But if the buff hits during your opener and AP, its really great
Re: Has anyone got Whispers in the Dark? Thoughts?
Ya that is what I am noticing. So you also dropped haste? What legendaries are you using?
Do you have enough traits for Frost/Fire? Have you tried it on one of those spec's?

Re: Has anyone got Whispers in the Dark? Thoughts?
Whispers was simming higher before the adjustments went in last week, but now we're seeing that a lot of the stat-stick trinkets are better for output, since they're predictable and don't alter your rotation as much. You can have a really great encounter with Whispers one fight, and then have it totally screw you up the next.
Honestly, I'd say Burning Sky or Star Gate are on par with Whispers, just because they won't ever have an adverse effect on your rotation.

Re: Has anyone got Whispers in the Dark? Thoughts?
That is disappointing to hear. My Whispers is ilvl900, my nearest stat stick is ilvl855. I do have an ilvl875 Burning Sky that I was going to use alongside the Whispers. Who knows when I'll get a high lvl stat stick to compete with my Whispers.
Re: Has anyone got Whispers in the Dark? Thoughts?
I mean, it's still a *good* trinket, but it's just going to be one of those RNG things that can make a fight feel funny and throw your rotation out of whack a bit. Whispers and Metronome are causing all sorts of trouble for fire mages, too, throwing off their crit chains due to projectiles taking longer to travel than their globals are. I'm sure you'll get used to things over time.
I would use a 900 Whispers despite the downsides.

Re: Has anyone got Whispers in the Dark? Thoughts?
got a 900 Whispers off a bonus roll on first kill.
I personally feel it may be best for frost... and Temporal Flux builds... but I do not have 2/4p to really use TF.
for OP builds, I suggest delaying your opening OP SLIGHTLY to line up with the first proc, It does feel bad if you miss it and half your OP burn is slightly slowed from the after effects. since OP is all about that burst window... feels good.
at the same time, its perfect for speeding up conserve rotations. If your running out of mana I suggest not spamming 4ac ABs... ST{barrage, ab 4, ams, barrage}. a perfect example is Star Augur, so much time to just stand and cast, dont get tricked, clear charges often and keep going.
when it procs during lust... the haste proc gave me that rush I miss from high quickening burns, so 2016.
IMO its fantastic, BiS non legendary trinket, just will take some getting used to.

Re: Has anyone got Whispers in the Dark? Thoughts?
Every sim and analysis will tell you that Whispers in the dark is top trinket atm. Check warcraft logs for arcane mages on heroic/mythic nighthold they use it as well.
It takes into account that sometimes you might not get proc in good time or the debuff hurts(you can use that time to regen some mana and build more AM's with 0 to 4 AC Arcane blasts) however as the AM's proc rate got really high right now thx to 2 set piece bonus, you always have some AMs and probably RoP ready to pop when the trinket procs and this will net you huge damage. If you run 1 mana legendary I would stick with 1 haste trinket like Whispers in the Dark or Erratic Metronome or chrono shard plus a stat stick. If you run 2 mana legendaries and have 4 set piece bonus like me you can go ham and use Whispers and Metronome in the same time if they have good ilvl.

Re: Has anyone got Whispers in the Dark? Thoughts?
As long as you run a mana regen legendary (pref the kilt) whispers is insane. If it procs during AP/lust (which happens pretty frequently, surprisingly) you can burst 2M+ DPS just single target.
I'm running 900 Whispers and 895 Metronome and my god is Arcane fun. When you have 5 stacks of Metronome + a Whispers proc your GCD is so low.
Real fun to play even if it is somewhat inconsistent, but overall I'd say I have many more good pulls with it than I do bad pulls.

Re: Has anyone got Whispers in the Dark? Thoughts?
Does it work similarly to Prophecy of Fear where it's highly likely to proc on pull?If it procs during AP/lust (which happens pretty frequently, surprisingly) you can burst 2M+ DPS just single target.
Re: Has anyone got Whispers in the Dark? Thoughts?
I get a good amount of procs on pulls, so yeah I'd say so. I didn't play during Prophecy of Fear times so I can't speak on whether it's exactly similar to that trinket or not but whisper has a pretty good proc rate on the pull.Does it work similarly to Prophecy of Fear where it's highly likely to proc on pull?If it procs during AP/lust (which happens pretty frequently, surprisingly) you can burst 2M+ DPS just single target.
Re: Has anyone got Whispers in the Dark? Thoughts?
dropping haste so low feels kinda bad though, cause if nothing procs, or you get the debuff, it takes like 3 seconds for 1 arcane blast ):Ya that is what I am noticing. So you also dropped haste? What legendaries are you using?

legendaries are belt and shard, so not really much mana regen haha
i decided in 7.1 id go full arcane mage and never looked back, so havent tried

Hello,
I have Whispers in the Dark AND Metronome trinkets. Without any proc I am at 16.6% haste. As for legendaries, I Have Rhonin and Kilt. You can check my char/stats here -> http://eu.battle.net/wow/en/character/k ... tic/simple
Here are my bits from some raiding and M+ (high ones like 14 and so) experiences:
1) Don't drop haste below what 16-17% soft cap. The trinket is RNG and our DPS now scales with Haste as well. Better safe than sorry, keep the cap.
2) Overall Whispers will increase your DPS and if you can combine it with Metronome, go for it. The buff from Metronome will oftentimes counter the debuff from Whispers!
3) Don't delay your burn phase waiting till Whispers buff, though DO delay it until you drop the debuff.
4) If it fits your rotation, use the last second of Whispers' buff to cast EAvocation (that will take off some seconds off the debuff while casting Evo quickly - snapshoted).
5) If possible, try to use insta casts while you have the debuff - Barrage, Charged Up, Barrage. Or Arcane Explosion. The global cooldown seems to be the least punishing option. This is only my experience though and I am taking into account movement - hardcasting Blast with that debuff is taking ages and is therefore dangerous!
Slight offtopic, does anyone have a WeakAuras string for Whispers buff/debuff? I could really use that.

I got it and I'm not 100% sure but I think I've seen occasions where the trinket proc'd back to back and the upside of the second proc overwrote the downside of the first proc. If that's accurate that makes it a little better than expected.
Anyhow here's the WA I use to track it:

I can pretty much echo this advice. Except for #5, there's certain scenarios where you can get away with hardcasting those ABs but for the most part he's right about wanting to use instant casts/GCDs during debuff.Hello,

Yes this can happen, it's just rare. I've had ONE dream pull where it procced 3x in a row. But the 2x proc I've seen quite a few times.I got it and I'm not 100% sure but I think I've seen occasions where the trinket proc'd back to back and the upside of the second proc overwrote the downside of the first proc. Re: Has anyone got Whispers in the Dark? Thoughts?
Due to the nature of it usually proccing on pull, should we be running CU instead of Res?
I find by the time I get my actual opener going, the buff is half over and I'm stuck with 6-7 seconds of AP with the debuff

I can understand why that'd be frustrating but CU isn't worth it on any fight where there is opportunities to AoE. Playing around RNG is even more frustrating anyway, I promise :pDue to the nature of it usually proccing on pull, should we be running CU instead of Res?
